Congratulations to Oluwatomilola Taiwo, a Biotechnology senior in Medical BTEC track at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.  Taiwo was selected for the 2022 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Mercy College. She has secured the scholarship close to $ 15,000.

The 2022 program will be held in person and will consist of a research project conducted at the laboratory of the student’s choice and team-based learning modules including: introduction to scientific methods, faculty seminars, career and professional development workshops, admissions workshops, and social activities. Participants will select a laboratory within the Department of Neuroscience based on scientific interests. In addition to the lab PI, the training will be led by post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and faculty.

The program runs for 10 weeks, from May 31st – August 5th. The program will be held on campus at the Albert Einstein Bronx campus located in the Bronx, New York. Transportation, accommodations, a stipend for participation, and a meal allowance are provided.

“Students like her are great role models for others,” says Dr. Leena Pattarkine, who leads the Biotechnology programs at Harrisburg University.  Dr. Pattarkine added that Taiwo mentioned in her essay for the program that her Medical BTEC courses introduced her to Biomarkers, stem cells, molecular diagnostics.
