On January 31, 2024, Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) held its 26th Annual Meeting and Awards Night at Strawberry Square. The evening featured a special message from HYP’s 2024 president, Iqbal Singh, and an address by Corrie Lingenfelter of Downtown Daily Bread, who spoke about serving the community through improved diversity in food-accessibility programs.

It was also a night of celebration for Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. HYP chose Harrisburg University to receive the 2024 President’s Award for service to the community and region. HYP’s 2023 president, Olivia Edwards Rindfuss, said of this honor:

“On behalf of the entire board and as the President, I am thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to you and the HU family for the exceptional service you have provided to our community and your outstanding efforts to create educational empowerment and prosperity. We appreciate your unwavering commitment to shaping the futures minds in Harrisburg and across the world.”

She continued: “Your recent successes and historical strides have not gone unnoticed, and we are honored to recognize HU’s continuous contributions. In particular, your efforts to bring Harrisburg to the world as you cultivated relationships with international partners has enriched our cultural fabric and extended Harrisburg’s global reach. Your ability to bridge gaps and promote understanding is truly commendable.”

A delegation from Harrisburg University was in attendance to celebrate the occasion. HU’s Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Cameron J. McCoy, PhD, received the award by saying:

“This is such an honor and a surprise! We appreciate the kind remarks, partnership for supporting HU students, and for this recognition. HU brings hundreds of students to Harrisburg for Executive Sessions and to engage in academic studies, creating wide economic impacts on local businesses. Many of those students are from other parts of the country or world, giving us the opportunity to showcase the city of Harrisburg.”

HYP and HU have been partners for several years, working together to give young adults fun and safe activities to do in Harrisburg, opportunities for personal growth and networking, and ongoing support as they plant roots and invest their time and skills in the region. In addition to education, HU Presents – the concert program of the University – similarly acts as an economic driver of downtown Harrisburg. HU Presents publishes news about upcoming events on Facebook and Twitter/X.com.
