Harrisburg-based Murray Associates Architects recently received an Outstanding Project Award for excellence in educational facility design in the fall 2019 edition of Learning By Design magazine for its design of Harrisburg University’s eSports training facility.

The Harrisburg University eSports Training Arena, home to the HU Storm, has been recognized by Learning By Design magazine for its architectural and interior design and for having next-generation benchmark type design and planning features worthy of imitation.

Learning By Design’s fall 2019 distinguished jury of six architects and end-user’s applauded Murray Associates Architects for its accomplishment in designing the eSports Training Arena. All awarded projects were peer-reviewed.

The jury discusses and looks for in each project unique and/or new concepts being implemented to improve education facility building design. Projects such as the eSports Training Arena are scored on six measures: Innovation, Community Need, Interior Design, Sustainability, Functional Design, and 21st Century Learning.

The Jury comments about HU’s esports facility included: “The design was able to maximize the footprint of the small existing space, as well as turn a critical eye to the perceived short comings of other similar facilities  – ie; the tendency to further promote physical isolation between teammates  during their gaming sessions.  From the post occupancy interview with facility staff, it sounds as though the design has had a positive impact on the overall egaming community and improved the performance of the student participants.”
