About the Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The purpose of this Digital Transformation Certificate Program is to empower Business and Government Leaders as they convert legacy processes and systems into new digital practices by empowering culture and enabling innovation within their organizations. These new methods are critical to not only remaining competitive but also improving the Employee / Citizen / Customer Experience by exceeding their evolving expectations.

The course will be facilitated by a diverse team of leading sector practitioners and a select group of guest speakers who will take a Circular Learning approach to performing deep dives into the topics and best practices that are key within this dynamic discipline.

The Cohort for this program will be made up of Public and Private sector organizations, with learners joining from both the Business and Information Technology areas within their responsible departments.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The program is specifically designed for employees who are leading or will be participating in Digital Transformation programs and strategies within their respective organization. The learners will explore and absorb the essential elements needed to chart a path that will advance their Digital Transformation program to the next level. The certificate program is designed to:

  • Empowering the organizations to both define and shape a successful Digital Transformation program.
  • Preparing the culture to accept and implement “business centric” Digital Transformation strategies and the innovative thinking required of this undertaking.
  • Garnering organizational awareness and acceptance to build out the proper balance of responsibility, accountability, and oversight (including executive sponsorship.)
  • Recognizing practical transformation opportunities, recognizing the capabilities and limitations within the current environment.

A Capstone project, applying the program’s core curriculum to a Digital Transformation Program will be produced and presented by the cohort participants. The Capstone project can be customized to meet a specific Digital Transformation challenge that the participant would like to address. Each learning module is linked to the Capstone to ensure the learner is assessing every aspect of the organization’s Digital Transformation maturity.

Schedule and Topics Covered

Class meets virtually via Microsoft Teams, (1) day per month, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, ET

Module 1: What is Digital Transformation
Recognition and awareness of Digital Transformation is essential to serve Business Decision Makers so they can shape their organizations to apply the most innovative approaches to engage customers and employees:

  • Why do organizations, both Public and Private, need to think about how Digital Technology can enhance the
    Employee/Citizen/Customer experience.
  • Asking the right questions to determine strategy, tactics, and operational processes to empower the business by evaluating
    Digital Transformation capabilities.
  • Digital Technology Thinking – how does an organization think differently to create a business centric digital strategy

Module 2:  Building a Business Centric Digital Transformation Culture & Organization
Developing Business Centric Thinking and Enablement Strategy:

  • Defining the “Business” Technology supported by IT (roles) to create the collaboration synergy required to be successful
    by Identifying the proper resources, skillsets, and business stakeholders both internal and external to the organization.
  • Executing a Digital Transformation Strategy by following an action plan and business driven road map that involves key
    stakeholders across the organization that will invoke governance and lead to a transformational culture.
  • How the business-driven Digital Transformation revolution requires an innovation / collaboration culture to be successful by
    instilling an ideation framework that allows organizations to enhance business processes.

Module 3: Driving the Transformational Journey
Understanding that the overall transformational journey must include the experiences of all stakeholders and not just be limited to the customer.

  • Identifying the stakeholders that have a role in the desired outcome, and defining, mapping, and improving that experience.
  • Simplifying the user journey by leveraging the digital world to gain the desired business results and reducing friction within
    the experience.
  • Thought, process, and Culture Transformation utilizing Emotional Intelligence and Organizational Awareness that allow for
    successful change within an organization.

Module 4: Garnering Sponsorship from Key Roles in the Organization
Influencing the organization’s key leaders to adopt a transformational mindset:

  • Developing executive sponsorship to create governance and ownership throughout the organization to reinforce the Digital
    Transformation culture.
  • Building relationships, formalizing steering committees, prioritizing projects, defining KPIs, and the processes to achieve
    success.
  • Developing and delivering a business case to justify the investments surrounding transformation by using both internal and
    external resources to accomplish goals.

Module 5: Practical Transformational Applications for Focused Business Empowerment
What are the pitfalls and limitations of digital transformation and the current technologies available:

  • Cross functional understanding of technology in this process and understanding scaling capabilities for any size
    organization.
  • Career paths for Digital Transformation thinkers, professionals, and champions.
  • Defining key functional areas for Digital Transformation (I.e., DevOps, MarTech, FinTech, HRTech, LogisticsTech.)

Month 6: Capstone and Graduation – Course objectives are synthesized into an applied project – for example: the student will develop a written maturity assessment report including an executive summary and formal classroom presentation describing results and an action plan.

Pre-Requisites (Qualifications)

To be considered for the Digital Transformation Certificate Program, an employee must be nominated by their supervisor and be recognized for the following:

  • Currently serving in or tracking toward a leading role with responsibilities tied to advancing Digital Transformation within their respective organization.
  • Direct exposure and access to their organization’s strategy and executable tactics surrounding Digital Transformation
  • Notable experience serving in a key role required to lead people, manage processes, and implement initiatives (or projects) that have an enterprise reach.

Expectations & Class Attendance Policy

Each participant is expected to complete the Capstone project outlined in the “Curriculum” section.

Some sessions will require pre-readings such as articles, case studies, or research.  Significant preparation time is not expected, given attendees have a “day job.”

Attendance at a minimum of 90% of the sessions is required.

Certificate of Completion

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end of the program as long as the student has fulfilled all requirements and presented a Capstone Presentation.

Registration Fees and Policies

2024 TUITION FEES*

  • For-profit organizations (private-sector):$2,950
  • Non-profit organizations and government (public-sector): $2,350

*Those accepted into the program or their organizations are responsible for the per-participant cost of the program.  Tuition fee is not collected at time of application.  Accepted applicants of the program will receive a tuition invoice at a later date.

Candidate Application

Candidates will complete an application form to present their learning goals, past experiences, expertise, and knowledge they will bring to the cohort for consideration.  [CLICK ON “APPLY NOW” AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE]

Required: Letter of Support/Recommendation
A letter of support/recommendation is also required from the candidate’s supervisor.

Candidates should provide the following information to their supervisor for letter submission:

The letter should include current position and responsibilities of the applicant, along with skills, knowledge, and any special projects for which the applicant is responsible.

The letter should be addressed to “DTCP Directors” and emailed to ProfessionalEd@HarrisburgU.edu with the subject line as, “DTCP Nomination Letter for [YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME]”

Note: Your application will not be considered complete until your letter of support/recommendation has been received. 

Acceptance Notification

Applicants will be notified whether they have or have not been accepted into the program. At that time, accepted applicants will receive full course details and information on Orientation.

  • All applicants will be notified of their acceptance or non-acceptance into the program by this date

Our Centers and Institutes The Government Technology Institute (GTI)

Harrisburg University’s Government Technology Institute is a driving force in educating IT Leaders, empowering them with increased skills to make “Good Government Great Government.” GTI connects government technology leaders with the expertise of its sponsors, as well as Harrisburg University faculty and advisors. Through its education, training, resources, and networking, Government Technology professionals use GTI to explore and collaborate on successful, cost-effective technology solutions.

Under the leadership of GTI Executive Director Charlie Gerhards, the GTI and its affiliated centers support learning, IT innovation, entrepreneurship, and intergovernmental collaboration that enhance the management, and leadership skills of the government workforce involved in information technology.
