Biography

Shahnoor’s academic journey began in 2001 as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, before she traveled to the United Kingdom to pursue graduate studies at Imperial College London and the University of Sheffield. Since then, she has worked at several higher education institutions, and she has served as an assistant professor of Computer and Information Sciences at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) since February 2023.

Prior to joining HU, she worked in computer science and applied computing at the School of Computing and Digital Media at London Metropolitan University. She was a guest lecturer for the MEng in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles program at Atlantic Technological University in Ireland from 2020 to 2021. From 2015 to 2018, she worked as a senior lecturer in electronics at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in Johor, Malaysia, a position she took up after completing postdoctoral research at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa in Canada from 2012 to 2015. That postdoctoral work involved developing automated software tools for single-microphone intelligibility enhancement and background noise reduction algorithms across a range of speech signals, in collaboration with Correctional Service Canada. Her research also contributed to the Speech De-Reverberation Project, a collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Shahnoor’s research interests fall within the broad category of signal and information processing. With an extensive background in digital signal processing, pattern recognition, and machine learning, she has worked on and led a range of academic and industrial projects involving pattern recognition and machine learning algorithms for automation; speech, audio, and biomedical signal processing; natural language processing; automatic speech recognition; and remote health monitoring systems that use the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning.
