Shahnoor Shanta, Ph.D., C.Eng. Assistant Professor of Computer and Information Sciences

Shahnoor’s academic journey began as a Lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh in 2001, before going to the UK to pursue her higher studies at Imperial College London and at the University of Sheffield. Since then, she has worked at various higher education establishments, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer and Information Sciences (CISC) at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HUST) since Feb 2023. Prior to joining HUST, she worked in Computer Science and Applied Computing at the School of Computing and Digital Media, London Metropolitan University (LMU). She was a Guest Lecturer for the MEng in Connected and Autonomous Vehicle program, at the Atlantic Technological University, Ireland in 2020-2021. During 2015-2018, she worked as a Senior Lecturer in Electronics in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia, which followed her postdoctoral research at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Ottawa, Canada during 2012-2015. The Postdoctoral research work involved development of software automated tools for single-microphone intelligibility enhancement and background noise reduction algorithms accommodating various speech signals and was in collaboration with the Correctional Services Canada (CSC). Her research work also contributed to the “Speech De-Reverberation Project” in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Shahnoor’s research interests belong to the broad category of signal and information processing. With an extensive background in Digital Signal Processing, pattern recognition, and machine learning, she had opportunities to work on and lead various relevant academic and industrial projects involving pattern recognition and machine learning algorithms for automation, speech, audio and biomedical signal processing, natural language processing, automatic speech recognition, and remote health monitoring system using IoT and machine learning.
