Luis Paris, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Computer Science

Dr. Paris received his Ph.D. in engineering science with an emphasis in computer science at the University of Mississippi in April 2005. He also holds an M.Sc. in computer science and a B.Sc. in electronics engineering. A charter faculty member at Harrisburg University since 2005, Dr. Paris brings valuable experience and applied knowledge from both academia and industry. He has worked in the computer science, engineering, and security fields for over 20 years, and has been engaged in its perennial software-hardware symbiosis ever since as a researcher, educator, and developer.

As a researcher, Dr. Paris has special interest in designing custom algorithms and data structures to solve complex engineering problems. Areas of active research include numerical analysis, parallel computing, data compression, cryptography, and computer security.

As an educator, Dr. Paris is driven by the desire to make computer science and engineering a more enjoyable discipline. To that end, he has pioneered the use of innovative technologies to engage learners in the classroom, such as Lego robotics and Alice 3D programming.

As a developer, Dr. Paris has worked as a research and development (R&D) engineer and software developer on countless projects ranging from video scramblers and audio codecs, to home inspection software for PDAs/smartphones, to data security tools for various operating systems.
