Harrisburg, PA – It might be the dog days of summer, with record-breaking heat punctuated by – hopefully – a trip to the beach or a waterfall or two. But at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU), experiential learning and scholastic excellence never take a break.

We keep our doors open all summer long for new students arriving for the first time, prospective students touring our campus, and returning graduate students taking part in on-campus weekends to complement their master’s-level hybrid classes. Let’s take a quick look at what’s been happening on campus over the last few weeks, including some of the new friends we made along the way.

UNDERGRADUATE NEW STUDENT ORIENTATIONS

Another New Student Orientation is slated for today – July 19, 2024.New Student Orientation is a chance for incoming undergraduate students to get acquainted with HU’s campus and resources, meet other new students, and learn about our many activities and services. Financial Aid, Student Life, the Learning Center and Accessibility Services, Information Technology, and other Student Services offices are available for you to speak to during your orientation.

GRADUATE STUDENT EXECUTIVE WEEKEND SESSIONS

July 13 marked the latest in Harrisburg University’s ongoing graduate student Executive Sessions, a signature program spanning HU’s diverse portfolio of advanced STEM degrees, most of which emphasize hybrid and virtual learning to some extent.

“During Executive Sessions, HU staff and faculty have the incredible opportunity to meet our students from all over the world,” said Julie Denniston, Graduate Student Services Coordinator for HU.

“This past Saturday, July 13th, HU had the pleasure of hosting our Welcome Weekend event for our Late Summer graduate students as they came to campus for their first Executive Session of the semester! We were thrilled to have 590 students join us, including over 200 brand-new graduate students at HU. Connecting face-to-face for the first time is an exciting experience for students and staff alike!”

HU developed its executive-style hybrid graduate programs for career-minded individuals. These sessions blend online learning with traditional, face-to-face teaching, including on-campus lectures, group projects, immersion trips, and workplace consulting projects. Students take part in these on-campus meetings three Saturdays per 14-week semester, with set dates in the academic calendar. This means international students are only required to be on campus three times per semester to complete their studies at HU. The full Harrisburg University Academic Calendar can be found here:

Julie continued, “Our hybrid learning model has truly shown that blending the best of virtual education with regularly scheduled classes held on campus three times per semester is the unique approach that makes the HU experience truly relevant for today’s graduate population. These moments of connection and community have added tremendous value to our students’ experiences. We’re excited for the year ahead and all the wonderful experiences it will bring!”
