On the heels of launching its varsity Esports program with full scholarship offering, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology announces its summer Esports camps. These camps are for high school students looking to improve their skills in Esports and gain a strategic advantage in the most popular video games, including League of Legends, Overwatch and Hearthstone. Students will train under world-ranked coaches and players and learn best practices in Esports and gaming.
“Many players don’t know where to start and what it takes to get to the next level in gaming,” explained Chad “HistoryTeacher” Smeltz, program director of HU’s Esports program. “We’re offering a summer camp that shows multiple facets of professional gaming. Esports are just like regular sports, and there are a multitude of levels, opportunities and careers that we can teach to younger players.”
Harrisburg University will offer the Esports Immersion Bootcamp this summer, a one-of-a-kind course that provides an overview about the Esports industry and teaches players about all things Esports. Male and female students with any level of gaming experience are encouraged to join this camp to explore future career opportunities in Esports management, production and entertainment, while also improving their tactical gaming skills.

“We approach collegiate Esports as a melding of academics with gameplay. Our students have the opportunity to pursue degrees in today’s sought-after STEM industries while training under world-ranked coaches,” said Dr. Eric Darr, President of Harrisburg University. “Our players are always students first. Our coaches teach knowledge needed by the students to succeed in their degree as well as skills in in gameplay to be a well-rounded player.”
The Esports summer camp will take place June 18-22, 2018 at HU’s Harrisburg campus. The camp is residential with a commuter option if attendees live within driving distance.
