What date do I need to have my SEVIS record at HU?

Students in the U.S. and transferring to HU, should go to their current university’s international student office and request their SEVIS record be transferred to HU by submitting their Harrisburg University Acceptance Letter, I-20 Transfer Request Form, and desired transfer date. The deadline to transfer a SEVIS record is the start date of the first semester.

What is my start and end date for the HU CPT form?

The start date on the CPT form should be the start date of your CPT at Harrisburg University (not the start date of your employment with that company overall). The earliest possible start date of CPT at HU for eligible students is the start of the first semester.
The end date on the CPT form should be a maximum of 364 days after the CPT start date. We can only put 12 months of CPT into SEVIS at a time. Or you can put an earlier end date if desired.

When will I receive my I20?

I20s are distributed at New Student Orientation if all deadlines/requirements are met. If an I-20 is not obtained at New Student Orientation, I20 will be mailed to the students US mailing address.

How do I pay?

Students should reference the Finance Tab on their MyHU Account for further instructions and to make payments.

Is my deposit/tuition refundable?

Deposit payments are non‐refundable. Students should reference the Refund Policy found in the University Catalog.

What is executive format?

Executive Format is a hybrid course consisting of three (3) weekend in class sessions and online course work. Full time enrollment at Harrisburg University is equivalent to six (6) semester hours.

How do I get/make accommodations?

Short term/Weekend stay: Preferred Hotels, by following this link, students can find a list of preferred hotels for our International Students. Hotels provide discounted rates for our students enrolled in graduate programs at HU. Students are responsible for booking their own accommodation. What are the important dates to know as a student?

Students should reference the University’s Academic Calendar found on the Academics Tab of their MyHU Account for all important dates.

What time is my online class?

An Online course is 100% online. Normally there is a weekly online session that students are to attend. That information is available on their schedules or found in their course syllabi.

Can I take more than one online class?

International Students studying on an F‐1 Visa can only take one (1) Online Course per semester. International Students studying on any Visa other than F‐1 can take more than one (1) Online Course per semester.

Can I change majors?

Students may change their Major by submitting an email request to Registrar@HarrisburgU.edu.

When is the last day to make changes to my registration?

The last day of the Drop/Add period for each Semester. Students should reference the University Academic Calendar found on the Academics Tab of their MyHU Account for the specific date.

Can I take a semester break?

HU international graduate students must study two consecutive semesters and are then eligible for a semester break. All semester breaks must be approved by ISO. Break requests must be submitted to HERE. Students will select ‘International Student Inquiry’ followed by ‘I would like to request a break’.

I want to travel to my home country, do I need any documents?

All active I20s are signed on the 2nd page with a travel endorsement. The signature allows for short term international travel for 1 year from the date of signature. Students should contact a DSO if signatures need to be renewed. Students only need their most recent I20, I‐94, passport and visa to travel internationally.

What courses will I need to complete my degree?

Students should reference the University Catalog found on their MyHU Account for a complete review of the MS Degree Programs. Students may also reference their Degree Audit found on their MyHU Account.

How many courses do I have to take?

International Students studying on an F‐1 Visa must be studying at a Full Time Status. Full Time status at the Graduate level is equivalent to six (6) Semester Hours.

Can I take more than the minimum full time course load?

Students in their first semester at HU, are only able to study at the minimum Full Time course load (6 semester hours). In future semesters, students can study with additional courses.

Who is my academic advisor?

What grade must I receive to not be subject to academic probation/dismissal?

At the Graduate Level, students must maintain a Cumulative GPA of 3.00 to not be subject to Academic Probation/Dismissal. Please reference “Academic Standing” clause in the Graduate University Catalog.

How do I receive transfer credits?

Students that have previous course work completed at a Graduate Level may be eligible for Transfer Credits. Transfer Credit is limited to six (6) semester hours. An Original Official Transcript is required. Please reference the Transfer Credit Clause in the Graduate University Catalog.

How do I receive my transcript?

Students should submit the electronic Transcript request form found on the Academics tab on their MyHU Account.

How do I change my address?

F-1 students must report a change of address within 10 days of moving. Please log in to your MyHU Portal and enter your local US address even if it is temporary. Any time you change your local US address, you must update your MyHU Portal within 10 days.

How do I receive a letter of enrollment?

Students may request a Letter of Enrollment by submitting a request HERE. Students will click “Letter Request” then complete and submit the online forms to request a letter of enrollment request.

How do I transfer to another institution?

Students may request a SEVIS Transfer by submitting a request HERE. Students click “Request” and complete and submit the online forms to request a transfer of your SEVIS record to another U.S. school. A transfer form and acceptance letter from the transfer-in school along with the desired transfer date must be submitted with the request.
