
Joel was born and raised in Northern California. After moving to the East coast and attending college, he joined the United States Army and served for nine years as an officer. After leaving the Army, he attended Penn State University to earn a Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Joel was hired by a GIS consulting firm in 2016 and continues to work as a GIS manager in their corporate headquarters. He began teaching at Harrisburg University in 2019 and currently teaches the Desktop GIS Development course.
