
David A. Schankweiler Interim President
David A. Schankweiler brings a distinguished legacy of visionary leadership, entrepreneurship, and public service to his role as Interim President of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. As a foundational figure in the University’s history, Schankweiler served as its Founding Chairman from 2001 to 2007, guiding its initial vision and growth. He now returns to further elevate the University’s mission of delivering high-impact, technology-driven education.
Schankweiler’s professional journey is marked by his founding and tenure as CEO of Journal Multimedia from 1984 to 2016, a dynamic multimedia publishing company renowned for its leading industry and business publications, including the Central Penn Business Journal and NJBIZ. Under his leadership, the company expanded into multiple media formats—print, web, video, research, and events—while serving diverse industries and regional audiences. Schankweiler’s expertise in media and business development is underscored by his enduring influence in the industry and his stewardship of community-focused publications.
In addition to his corporate achievements, Schankweiler remains actively involved in a range of for-profit and nonprofit organizations. He currently serves on the boards of Warden Asphalt, Letort Trust, and Woodward Communications Inc., contributing his strategic vision and business acumen. His commitment to philanthropy and community impact is exemplified by his role as Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign and Chairman of the Development Committee at King’s College, his alma mater, where he also serves as a trustee. Schankweiler’s civic contributions extend to his involvement with Theatre Harrisburg, the Link Foundation, and the Historic Harrisburg Association, where he provides guidance on preserving and enriching community life.
Schankweiler’s prior leadership roles include Chairman of the Board for the United Way of the Capital Region, the Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority for the City of Harrisburg, the Community First Fund, and The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. His work with these organizations has underscored his commitment to economic development, regional cooperation, and philanthropic advancement. He also co-founded the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania and has served on boards across a spectrum of sectors, including the American Red Cross, Junior Achievement, the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, and the Harristown Development Corporation.
David Schankweiler holds a B.S. in Accounting from King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, and is a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area. His dynamic career and lifelong dedication to both professional and community advancement reflect his deep commitment to creating opportunities, fostering innovation, and building sustainable legacies. As Interim President of Harrisburg University, he is poised to leverage this unique blend of leadership and service to empower the next generation of students and position the University as a beacon of academic and technological excellence.
