HARRISBURG, PA — A team of students from Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) is spending three weeks in Greece as part of an immersive study abroad experience led by Albert Sarvis, HU’s Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness.
The trip, which began May 17 and runs through June 6, is designed to expand students’ appreciation and understanding of different cultures and geography through a long-term stay in a Greek village and visits to archeological and historical sites across the country.
Academically, the course focuses on geospatial technologies related to mapping, including GPS, drones, and geospatial information systems (GIS), while also exploring historical and archeological research. Instruction is being provided by Albert Sarvis alongside Messiah University faculty member Dr. David Pettegrew.
Students participating in the trip include Sheyla Baker, Jourdan Carrero, Catherine Guest, Cole Jones, Sophia O’Reilly, and Cordelia Wills: rising sophomores through rising seniors representing majors including Game Design, Forensics, and Environmental Science.
During the trip, students will visit locations including Ancient Corinth, Athens, Delphi, Nafplion, Delphi, and the island of Aegina. The group will be traveling with eight students from Messiah University and will cross paths with students from Michigan State University working on the Isthmia Archeological site.

For Catherine Guest ’27, the experience marks her first time traveling abroad. “After talking to students who participated in previous trips, I knew I wanted to go,” Catherine said. “I am most excited to try the food and try new things.”
This is the second Greece trip led by Albert Sarvis, who has also taken four student groups to Iceland.
