Graduate Admissions for F-1 Students

The deadline for applications from students currently in the United States is 15 days before the start date of a semester; all others must apply two months before the program start date.

In addition to the requirements listed above, you must provide the following:

    • Proof of English Proficiency (TOEFL score of 80 IBT, IELTS score of 6.5, or Duolingo Score of 115 or higher).
Students who have earned a degree in the UK, Australia, or Canada may be exempt from providing an English proficiency exam. Additionally, students from these countries are usually exempt from providing an English proficiency exam:

Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Malta, Micronesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Ireland, Rwanda, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sudan, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu, Zimbabwe

    • Copy of passport. Transfer students must also provide a copy of their Visa, I-94, and current I-20.

    • Please upload scanned copies of your official or unofficial transcript with your application. If accepted, students must then have their official transcript sent to Harrisburg University to ensure there are no registration issues. Transcripts must be sent directly from each institution to GradTranscripts@HarrisburgU.edu. Alternatively, sealed official copies can be mailed to Admissions, Harrisburg University, 326 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101.

    • Bank Statement of $27,190 USD ($17,190 for one year of tuition and $10,000 for living expenses) or affidavit of support if applicable. Applicants with dependents and children must show additional financial support of $5,000 for a spouse and $2,500 per child.

    • If a student is transferring a SEVIS, it must arrive one day before the start of the semester. Otherwise, Registration will withdraw the student from classes and defer the student to the subsequent semester. Submit an online SEVIS transfer recommendation request.

    • An approved international credentialing service, such as World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators, must evaluate students who only have a bachelor’s degree. Students who wish to have graduate college credits considered for transfer must also have a course-by-course evaluation completed by World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators®.  Up to six credits may transfer at the graduate level.

Admissions FAQs

What date do I need to have my SEVIS record at HU?

Students in the U.S. and transferring to HU, should go to their current university’s international student office and request their SEVIS record be transferred to HU by submitting their Harrisburg University Acceptance Letter, I-20 Transfer Request Form, and desired transfer date. The deadline to transfer a SEVIS record is the day before the semester starts, not the semester start date.

What is my start and end date for the HU CPT form?

The start date on the CPT form should be the start date of your CPT at Harrisburg University (not the start date of your employment with that company overall). The earliest possible start date of CPT at HU for eligible students is the start of the first semester.

The end date on the CPT form should be a maximum of 364 days after the CPT start date. We can only put 12 months of CPT into SEVIS at a time. Or you can put an earlier end date if desired.

When will I receive my I20?

For transfer students – I-20’s are sent to the HU email address by the first day of class. For new initial students – your Active I-20 will be sent once you submit the Arrival and Check In Request in Terra Dotta. SEVP has authorized the issuance of electronic I-20s which can be used for all purposes. No physical I-20s (hard copies) are mailed.

How do I pay?

Students should reference the Finance Tab on their MyHU Account for further instructions and to make payments.

Is my deposit/tuition refundable?

Deposit payments are non‐refundable. Students should reference the Refund Policy found in the University Catalog. What is the refund policy?

How do I get/make accommodations?

Short term/Weekend stay: Preferred Hotels, by following this link, students can find a list of preferred hotels for our International Students. Hotels provide discounted rates for our students enrolled in graduate programs at HU. Students are responsible for booking their own accommodation.
