A start-up company nurtured by Harrisburg University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) just got its wings.

Arcana Recovery was recently awarded $100,000 from Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania to help grow the mobile app and web platform that helps reduce substance abuse relapse by quickly connecting those overcoming addiction to recovery resources.

Supported by the CIE’s incubator program, the funding will help founder Sharina Johnson, a combat   veteran, launch the Arcana Recovery app and web platform.

“Ben Franklin’s $100,000 investment into Arcana Recovery will help us expand the development of our app and web platform and implement our marketing strategy,” said Johnson, whose story recently was featured on NBC Nightly News. “Matched with Ben Franklin’s investment, we received $100,000 from four angel investors. To date, we have raised $200,000. The funding will prepare us for our full product launch by June 2023.”

Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pennsylvania invests in tech startups and small manufacturers located throughout a 32-county footprint.

Johnson’s vision and drive combined with the resource she has developed led Ben Franklin Technology Partners to make such a significant investment in Arcana Recovery, said Julie Bratton, the organization’s Portfolio and Operations Coordinator.

“We are encouraged by Sharina’s drive and Arcana Recovery’s business mission to create and offer a platform to better connect support services, that are so critical in reducing relapse, with those struggling with addiction,” Bratton said. “It’s a great thing when you can invest in an impressive founder who strives to deliver on both a tech-based business solution and a significant social impact.”
