HARRISBURG, PA – This past weekend, Harrisburg University of Science & Technology’s (HU) Assistant Director of Esports and Partnerships (and 2023 HU Alumna), Lynzie Wagaman, spoke at Campus Takeover 2025: a two-day esports-focused event at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
The event was hosted by Gen.G Esports, a leading professional esports organization connecting the US and Asia, as well as McDonald’s DMV. Throughout the weekend, the event saw speakers and students from around the DMV area come together to share knowledge and their hopes for the future of the esports scholastic space.

Lynzie was featured on the “Inclusivity & Representation in Esports & Gaming” panel on Saturday. She spoke alongside Keshia Walker, Founder of the Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA), and Victor Gomez, Esports Manager and Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University. The panel was moderated by Molly Denz, esports commentator and Shenandoah University student.
The panel included conversations around authentic representation in the esports space, performative versus genuine representation, and hopes for the future of inclusivity in the industry. Lynzie shared: “It was an honor to be invited to speak at the Campus Takeover hosted by Gen.G and McDonald’s DMV. I’m inspired by my fellow panelists and the work they do to uplift students around them every day.”
Other panels throughout the weekend included Balancing Gaming & Mental Wellness, Gaming Communities: Online to IRL, Pro Gamers & Content Creators, Breaking Into the Esports Industry, Your Network Is Your Network: Relationship Building, Building a Collegiate Esports Brand: A Lecture on AI & Gaming, and a keynote by co-founder and CEO of ESPAT TV, Dante Simpson.
The event closed out with a Super Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament for students. Harrisburg University Student and Super Smash Brothers competitor, Corbett Summers, was in attendance at Campus Takeover and competed in the Smash Bros. tournament. Corbett shared:

“My experience at Campus Takeover was very informative. I got to learn more about the esports industry, how to help balance gaming and my mental wellness, what it takes to be a pro gamer and creator, networking, and how to represent your team. The biggest takeaways from this experience were the networking opportunities and mental wellness, which will help me because I’m a freshman in college and new to esports, so I’d like to be better at keeping my mental wellness stable during college and increase my communication skills with others. When I competed in the Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SSBU) tournament, it was very fun and exhilarating because I was able to meet and go against other college students.”
