HARRISBURG, PA — The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) esports team, The Storm, are excited to welcome the Wildcard Gaming professional Rocket League team to campus. Wildcard, based in Houston, TX, is a North American esports organization founded in 2017. Wildcard has chosen Harrisburg University for their bootcamp home base ahead of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Major Tournament 2025, taking place in Raleigh, NC, on June 28, 2025.
Rocket League is a soccer-style game featuring remote-controlled cars that can be played 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3. The free-to-play game, developed by Psyonix, is currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary and is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and consoles.
The Wildcard roster is comprised of players Lachlan “Fever” Aitchison, Daniel “Torsos” Parsons, Jon “bananahead” Anastasakis, and Coach James “Jimmah” Forshaw, all hailing from Australia. The team is lodging in the HU Storm esports dorms and utilizing HU’s high-speed LAN facilities during their visit.
The Wildcard Rocket League team currently competes in the Oceania region for RLCS. The squad has played in six qualifying events this season, with the first three leading them to qualify for the previous Major Tournament in Birmingham, UK. In the fourth through sixth qualifiers, the team won the first two events and placed 3rd and 4th in the final open qualifier, sending them to the Raleigh Major and placing them as the highest-ranking team in the Oceania region.
To qualify for the Major, teams must earn enough points during the qualifying tournaments to be in the top two for the region. Wildcard earned 48 points: 10 more than the region’s second-place team, TSM, who also qualified for the Major. Wildcard is now preparing to compete against 15 other top teams from across the globe for their share of the $351,000 prize pool while in Raleigh.
The HU Storm is looking forward to supporting Wildcard Rocket League as they prepare for the Major! Be sure to follow the Wildcard RLCS Raleigh Major run from June 26–29 on social media and Twitch (twitch.tv/rocketleague & twitch.tv/rlesports).
