HARRISBURG, PA – In August, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) announced the appointment of Kevin Purcell, PhD, as its new provost and chief academic offer.
Then, earlier this month, HU achieved another significant milestone – the first under Dr. Purcell’s watch but certainly not the last. U.S. News & World Report has named Harrisburg University the #16 Most Innovative School in the Regional Universities North category.
Dr. Purcell joined Good Day PA! on September 24 to talk about this achievement as well as HU’s upcoming Open Houses on October 5 and November 16.
“When it opened in 2001, Harrisburg University was an innovator – and the momentum has not only continued, but intensified since then,” remarked Amy Kehm, host and producer for Good Day PA!. U.S. News compiles their Best Colleges in America rankings each year through surveys and discussions with presidents, provosts, and deans from other institutions.
“It’s really nice to be recognized by our peers,” said Dr. Purcell. “It supports the idea that we’re meeting our mission and speaks to the idea that we’re serving the community and the region, and providing the economic link to provide education for students to move into those things that are really going to serve the region and more broadly the world.”
The conversation covered some of the primary industries in which Harrisburg University has emerged as an academic innovator and a true partner to local industry. These include Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics, Advanced Agriculture and Aquaponics, Allied Health Sciences, and Healthcare Futures.
