KEY TAKEAWAYS

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become the defining technology of the 21st century, fundamentally reshaping business strategy, operations, and decision-making across industries. Global organizations are increasingly investing in AI-driven systems to improve productivity, enhance customer experience, optimize supply chains, and create competitive advantages.

  • Hands-on, applied AI decision-making: Students work directly with AI systems, data visualization platforms, and predictive and optimization models to design and evaluate real business solutions – not hypothetical ones.
  • Operations and supply chain focus: An emphasis on AI-driven operations and supply chain decision-making addresses an area where AI delivers immediate and measurable business value. This is a rare academic focus area and reflects both industry demand and HU’s institutional strengths in systems engineering and applied analytics.
  • Industry partnerships: HU’s strong connections with regional employers, technology firms, and public sector agencies fuel applied learning opportunities and capstone collaborations throughout the program.
  • Ethics and responsible AI: Principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability are embedded throughout the curriculum, preparing graduates to lead with integrity in technology-driven environments aligned with emerging regulatory and organizational expectations.
  • Stackable credentials and academic pathways: The MBAI is designed to integrate with HU’s broader graduate ecosystem in Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems Engineering and Management, and Project Management. This enables articulated pathways, stackable certificates, and future dual-degree opportunities.
  • Executive format built for busy professionals: The program is delivered online with two in-person executive sessions per semester: an ideal format for working professionals who cannot step away from their careers to earn a graduate degree.

PROGRAM GOALS

The program prepares management professionals capable of leading organizations through AI-driven transformation, integrating business acumen with technical fluency and ethical awareness. The MBAI emphasizes strategic decision-making, organizational change, and value realization through AI, enabling graduates to lead AI initiatives without requiring them to become AI engineers or model developers.

Graduates of the MBAI program are prepared to lead at the intersection of business strategy and artificial intelligence. Upon completing the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Prepare AI-literate business leaders who can apply AI-enabled insights to strategic, financial, and operational decisionmaking in enterprises, supply chains and other organizational context.
  • Enable managers to evaluate, select, and govern AI-enabled analytics and operational solutions, and to translate AI-driven insights and outputs into actionable business recommendations across core business functions and enterprise decision support.
  • Develop leadership and change-management capabilities to plan, manage, and scale AI initiatives within complex, multidisciplinary organizations.
  • Integrate ethical, legal, regulatory, governance, and societal considerations into AI-driven business decision-making.
  • Communicate AI-driven analyses and recommendations clearly and persuasively to executive and non-technical stakeholders.

INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTS

AI is no longer on the horizon. It has arrived at work, and it is reshaping the skills, roles, and expectations that define professional success. As a result, the demand for AI leadership skills is accelerating across sectors.

  • The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of data scientists to grow 36% between 2023 and 2033 – far exceeding the national average of 4% – while the broader computer and mathematical occupations group is projected to grow at more than triple the average rate for the total economy.
  • According to LinkedIn’s 2025 “Work Change Report,” by 2030, 70% of the skills used in most jobs will change, with AI emerging as a primary catalyst. Global hiring of AI talent has increased more than 300% over the past eight years, and AI hiring is growing 30% faster than overall hiring.
  • Gartner’s CEO and Senior Executive Survey (2025) reports that over 80% of organizations view “AI strategy leadership” as a core competency for next-generation executives.

Roles such as AI Strategy Manager, Chief Data Officer, Business Intelligence Director, and Product Manager (AI/ML) are expanding rapidly as organizations seek executives who can guide data-driven innovation.

With Harrisburg University’s prime location and strong partnerships across healthcare, manufacturing, and government sectors, the HU MBAI is positioned to meet both regional workforce needs and national demand.
