Award-winning CEO, civic leader, and author Dr. Stephen S. Tang will be the principal speaker at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s 16th Commencement on May 11, 2023.

For over thirty years, Tang has served as chairman or chief executive officer for public corporations in life science and energy technology, leading nonprofits, and key government advisory boards. His life’s journey took him from the son of Chinese immigrants to the United States to the serving as a multiple-award winning chief executive officer and author.

“Dr. Tang’s story is a reminder to embrace the journey and make courageous decisions. He is a ‘Renaissance Man’ who is dedicated to driving innovation and entrepreneurship around the world, making him an ideal speaker for the Class of 2023,” says Dr. Eric Darr, President of Harrisburg University.

Tang is author of the book, A Test for Our Time: Crisis Leadership in the Next Normal, where he offers an inspiring testament to courage, resilience, and trust in times of chaos and calamity.

As CEO of OraSure Technologies Inc. from 2018 to 2022, Tang shares his journey through unprecedented growth driven by their revolutionary product, InteliSwab COVID-19 Rapid Test—recognized by Oprah Winfrey’s company as “the easiest home COVID-19 test to use.” Drawing from the wisdom of celebrated authors, Tang illustrates how we can move forward through crises with compassion, vulnerability, risk-taking, and learning.

Harrisburg University will hold its 16th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 11, 2022, beginning at 6:30 pm at the Forum Auditorium in Harrisburg. More than 725 students from the Class of 2023 are expected to graduate this year.  More information on the event is found online at
