Mayor Eric Papenfuse delivered a proclamation to Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Wednesday afternoon, naming the week of Sept. 18-25 Tech and Town Week ahead of the University’s week-long Tech and Town Week celebration set to kick off this Saturday.

HU, with generous support from the Law Firm of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, will present Tech and Town week, a celebration of the energy pulsing throughout Pennsylvania’s capital city. The celebration will include numerous events that will entertain, educate, and enlighten throughout Harrisburg.

“Harrisburg University remains committed, as always, to the vibrancy of downtown Harrisburg, collaborating constantly with community partners, business leaders, and officials to spark economic development and community engagement,” Papenfuse said during the delivery of his proclamation in front of HU President Dr. Eric Darr, other University leaders, and representatives from McNees, Wallace & Nurick. “I, Eric Papenfuse, mayor of the city of Harrisburg, do hereby designate Sept. 18 through Sept. 25 Tech and Town week in the city of Harrisburg. Thank you for all that you do for the city of Harrisburg.”

In thanking Mayor Papenfuse for the proclamation, Dr. Darr noted that Tech & Town Week will celebrate the things that make our region great, including HU’s students and staff, the city of Harrisburg, the region’s employers, and the community.

“We appreciate this proclamation very much. We appreciate the support (of the city) as always. And we look forward to an innovative, entertaining week next week,” Dr. Darr said. “And we couldn’t do it without the support of our gracious sponsor, McNees, Wallace, & Nurick. We appreciate your support as always. Partnerships are what makes all of this possible.”

Tech and Town week will kick off Saturday with HU’s annual HUE Invitational, the nation’s biggest, most competitive collegiate Esports tournament. The two-day tournament features 32 collegiate teams from across the U.S. that will battle for their piece of a $20,000 prize pool.

Tech & Town Week will feature four HU Presents concerts from national recording artists including Cage the Elephant, Portugal. The Man, Dawes, and Grouplove, heralding the return of the live music we’ve missed so much and that has become an HU hallmark.

Other Tech and Town Week events include a Fall Involvement Fair, a HU Faculty and Staff Campaign, the “Celebration of Innovation, Diversity, and Inclusion!” hosted by HU’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and more.
