Harrisburg University Professor Dr. Nancy Mimm recently joined abc27 news to discuss the importance of maintaining one’s overall health during the pandemic.

Mimm, program lead for HU’s Master of Science in Nursing program and vice-chair of the Faculty of the Whole, said people should not be afraid to visit a doctor’s office for fear of catching COVID-19 in a waiting room.

She said colleagues also have told her that children are not seeing pediatricians for the same reason. People of all ages are not getting regular screenings that could lead to early detection of illness.

“When problems are detected early, that has an impact on treatment options,” Mimm said. “If they are found too late, patients have less options available.”

Mimm encourages everyone to take control of their health during and after the pandemic subsides.

“Go see your doctor or your primary care provider,” she said. “I am here to tell you, ‘don’t be afraid.’ It is time to start seeing your dentist again and getting things done that you need to have done.”
