HARRISBURG, PA — After earning his degree in Computer & Information Sciences from Harrisburg University of Science & Technology (HU), Isaiah Majeed ‘25 is now launching his professional career with Leidos, and he credits much of his success to the foundation he built at HU.
During his time at Harrisburg University, Isaiah secured an internship that played a pivotal role in shaping his skills and confidence. With the help of Professor Brian Grey, he landed a Software Engineer Trainee position at Members 1st Federal Credit Union, where he worked for 10 months from November 2024 to August 2025.
In his role, Isaiah contributed to projects that directly impacted more than 600,000 credit union members, resolving bugs across both front-end and back-end systems. Working closely with his team, he developed experience using Agile methodologies, C#, HTML, Angular, GitHub, and Azure DevOps: tools and practices that are essential to modern software development.
Isaiah credits HU with giving him both the technical and professional skills needed to thrive:
“The soft skills I gained at HU were invaluable – problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and collaboration. Needing to critically think about how to solve a bug or design a new component of any kind is needed daily as a Software Engineer. You also need to articulate the technical decisions you took, not only to other developers but also non-technical stakeholders across the organization in a way they can understand.”
His coursework in data structures, algorithms, database design, SQL, and programming standards prepared him to contribute meaningfully from day one. “Having that foundational knowledge allowed me to make real contributions during my internship,” Isaiah said.
That experience ultimately empowered him to take the next step in his career. After keeping his LinkedIn profile updated with his skills and accomplishments, he was contacted by a recruiter and soon secured a full-time role as a Software Developer at Leidos.
Isaish encourages current and future students to take advantage of every opportunity HU provides, including the power of professional networking. “My advice is to make sure your LinkedIn is always up to date,” he said. “You never know what opportunities might come your way as a result.”
