HARRISBURG, PA — Three Harrisburg University of Science & Technology (HU) Esports Management, Production & Performance students — Jacob Groves ’27, Becca Schuler ’28, and Eowyn Rice ’26 — recently traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to participate in the Gen.G Practicum Abroad Program from December 16, 2025, to January 6, 2026. The program provided students with hands-on experience in esports, mentorship from industry professionals, and the opportunity to explore Korean culture.

For Jacob Groves, the most meaningful aspect of the experience wasn’t just the projects, but the personal growth he achieved while making new friends and new connections. “I wanted to test myself socially,” he said. “For the duration of the trip, I personally cut off all communication with people that I already knew. I wanted to do this because I felt like I always struggled socially and I wanted to see what I could do by being in a new country with completely new people.”

The practicum also was directly connected to Jacob’s studies and future goals in Esports Management. “Gen.G is an esports company, so this experience ties to what I’m learning at HU,” he said. “I’ve gained confidence in myself socially, and in my ability to do new things. I’m currently the JV Storm Marvel Rivals manager, which is something I wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for this trip.”
Jacob encourages other HU students to pursue similar opportunities. “Just do it! Find a way to pay for the trip and do it. I’ve learned so much from this experience with people and with traveling abroad solo. It’s really a program that you want to be involved in.”

The Gen.G Practicum Abroad Program offers students the chance to work in business, education, and marketing with the Gen.G Global Academy. Participants collaborate on group projects; attend lectures on esports trends, marketing, team management, and business strategies; and engage in cultural site visits throughout Seoul. Over 21 days, students gain professional skills, expand their networks, and experience Korean history, traditions, and daily life firsthand.
Lynzie Wagaman ‘23 — HU alum and current Assistant Director of Esports & Partnerships — completed the program last year. “The Gen.G Practicum Abroad Program is an incredible, immersive opportunity for students and recent grads,” Lynzie shared. “As someone who was able to experience the program first-hand, I saw the value and the experience students return home with. I hope more HU students get to experience the program in the future.”
