HARRISBURG, PA — Harrisburg University of Science & Technology (HU) continues to set the tone in collegiate esports. The HU Storm Varsity VALORANT Team had an impressive regular Fall season and are now preparing for their next challenge: competing in person at the 2025 PlayVS PCL Fall Championship in Akron, Ohio.

This past semester, the Varsity VALORANT Team competed in the PlayVS College League, or PCL: a performance that qualified them for the Top 8 in-person LAN tournament at the University of Akron from December 13–14.

The HU Storm Varsity VALORANT Team is comprised of three undergraduate students, one graduate student, and one graduate student/head coach. Ethan Mamros and Evan Mamros, brothers from Western PA, have been at the core of the squad since Spring 2024 and are both enrolled in the Cybersecurity Bachelor’s Program at HU. Joining them this year are Ian Sun, from Philadelphia, PA, who is also studying Cybersecurity, and Matthew Williams of Wayne, Nebraska, who is currently a graduate student in the Cybersecurity Operations & Control Management Master’s Program at HU.

The team had an impressive record in the PCL, going 6-1 in regular season matches. In the first round of the post-season, the Varsity squad went up against San Jose State University (SJSU) and swept them 2-0. Their win over SJSU solidified their spot in the PCL Premier League’s Top 8 and earned them a spot at the in-person LAN tournament in Akron, Ohio, from December 13–14.

The Varsity Team is now preparing for Akron in earnest. Project Management graduate student and Head VALORANT Coach, Iyen Raju, shared: “The team is very excited to play at the PlayVS LAN Finals in Akron. This season, we’ve worked hard with our new lineup, and this event provides us with the chance to show off our skills. The players love the LAN environment and the energy it brings. We’re sure that if we play our game, we can go deep in the bracket and beat anyone there.”

The Storm, seeded 4th in Group A, first faces the University of St. Thomas, who are the 1st seed of Group A. Also competing in Group A are Columbia College and the University of Central Florida. Group B features Baker College, Fisher College, Northwood University, and Tiffin University. The Storm has a tough tournament ahead of them, so be sure to keep an eye on The Storm socials to stay up to date on the team’s performance and cheer them on.
