Economic development and support for businesses have always been part of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s mission and a cornerstone of it is the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
The Burg recently profiled the CIE and Harrisburg University’s role in developing entrepreneurs and supporting economic development in the region, particularly among under-represented communities. Led by Jay Jayamohan, the CIE is helping to create wealth for underserved communities in the region. Jayamohan is a leading expert in disruptive innovation, design thinking, and strategic management. He has worked extensively with Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, the US government, startups, venture capitalists, and foundations. As executive director of the Harrisburg University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, he is responsible for creating a multi-pronged, interconnected hub that aligns business activities across campus and across disciplines. He leads the effort to establish this important permanent center of innovation to create greater impact, social and business, by having innovative thinkers and entrepreneurs from Harrisburg who join with students, faculty and society to collaborate on ideas and solve problems.
Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) mission is to empower innovators to build successful ventures by providing the infrastructure and resources, with a special focus on serving the underrepresented minority. Unlike other programs focusing on pie-in-the sky pitches delivered over an accelerator program, we provide the support and infrastructure to build any person’s idea in a thoughtful way with the guidance of the right kind of experienced entrepreneurs.
