Harrisburg University President Dr. Eric Darr recently discussed the significance of opening a location in Philadelphia in a recent article published by The Hechinger Report, a national nonprofit newsroom focused on education.

In the article, titled “As enrollment falls and colleges close, a surprising number of new ones are opening,” Darr said HU’s expansion into Philadelphia provides a college education to traditionally under-served students who otherwise “would not have gone to college. They would not have gone anywhere.”

“Yes, there are world-class universities in Pennsylvania with hundreds of years head start on us. But they don’t focus on these kinds of students,” Darr said. “So, we saw an opportunity, but we also saw a need.”
