On the heels of launching a successful concert series featuring today’s best music and comedy acts, Harrisburg University will introduce an undergraduate course this spring that gives students hands-on experience producing live shows.

Live Entertainment 101 is designed to offer students exposure and real-world experience in producing live entertainment events. Students will learn booking, advancing, and producing with emphasis on contracts, sales, marketing, negotiation, and budgeting, along with general skills in management, planning, coordination, and communication.

Frank Schofield, HU Director of Live Entertainment and Media Services, has teamed with Interactive Media Professor Charles Palmer, Project Management Professor Dr. Barbara Geisler, and Amy Gaio, Studio Production Manager of Rock Lititz, to offer the course.

Students will gain an appreciation for production teams of live shows in theaters, parks, stadiums, clubs, and other venues.

“We’re thrilled to offer our students experiences and opportunities available in the live entertainment industry,” Schofield said. “The course is a natural extension of what we are doing to build the university brand and live entertainment offerings in Harrisburg.”
