Several Harrisburg-area startup businesses have received a financial boost thanks to the M&T Bank’s Capital Region Multicultural Small Business Lab.

Three winners were crowned after a pitch competition on June 21 wrapped up a seven-week business accelerator program that began in May in partnership with the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Harrisburg University. During the free program, local minority entrepreneurs attended weekly business classes at HU.

The Capital Region Multicultural Small Business Lab launched in 2022 to provide minority small-business owners free access to resources and education to grow their businesses. Last year, M&T Bank and the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Harrisburg University received the 2022 Catalyst Award from the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC for their impact on the area.

The Burg covered the pitch competition and the M&T program in an article. Read the article here:

The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship’s (CIE) mission is to empower innovators to build successful ventures by providing the infrastructure and resources, with a special focus on serving the underrepresented minority. Unlike other programs focusing on pie-in-the-sky pitches delivered over an accelerator program, we provide the support and infrastructure to build his/her idea thoughtfully with the guidance of the right kind of experienced entrepreneurs.
