The internet is awash with stories about the Joro spider.  Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s Dr. Robert Furey is an expert on the social behaviors of spiders and recently was interviewed by Mashable.com on the topic.

The interview is found here  https://mashable.com/article/spider-joro-spread-us-parachute

He is associate provost and professor of Integrative Sciences.  Nicknamed Spiderman by members of the community, Furey’s work has centered around social aspects of spider behavior, but his interests have broadened to include areas of astronomy, physics, geology and forensics.
