Eight Harrisburg University (HU) science students, accompanied by their research advisors, attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Science annual scientific meeting last weekend in Erie, Pa., to present various research work done at the university.

These students received many awards demonstrating their high-quality, hands-on research training at HU. Marvelous Aluko was awarded second place and a cash prize in the conference’s Best Oral Research Presentation category.

Michael Lazar, Maurice Lopez-Soliz, Jordan Mears, and Oluwatomilola Taiwo all received Honorable Mentions in the Oral Research Presentation category.

Okiki Ajana-Adegboro was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Outstanding Women in Science category due to her standout oral research presentation. Four students (Marvelous Aluko, Michael Lazar, Okiki Ajana-Adegboro, and Oluwatomilola Taiwo) were awarded $250 student travel grants from the PA Academy of Science to offset the cost of travel to the conference.

The PA Academy of Science brings together research scientists at the undergraduate and master’s levels (>100 presentation abstracts this year) from across Pennsylvania to share new discoveries and innovations in research. Seeing how HU students stand out among their peers doing research at other PA institutions is amazing. Let’s congratulate our HU students!
