Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s Student Center was named Best Interior Architecture Project of 2020 by the Mid Atlantic Real Estate Journal.

The MARE Journal, which covers the real estate industry in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C., recognized the Student Center in its recently published Best of 2020 issue.

Located on the arcade level of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, the 7,950-square-foot Student Center was designed by Harrisburg’s Murray Associates Architects, P.C.

“This award recognizes the innovative design of Murray Associates in creating a Student Center that is a unique, state-of-the-art space where our students work, have fun, and collaborate together,” said Dr. Eric Darr, Harrisburg University President.

The Student Union Center features dedicated collaborative learning and small group areas, private study and conference rooms, student club meeting space, an aquaponics lab outfitted with a video monitoring system for guests, fitness and gaming areas, and a self-service kitchen.

It also includes a custom-designed amphitheater outfitted with a seamless video wall display which can be used as a student/faculty work area, a lecture and presentation space, distance learning lab, community event space, and for other student team building events.

“We understood the need for a dedicated space for the HU Students and are proud of this recognition” said Murray Associates Architects P. C.’s President, Benedict H. Dubbs, AIA RA, LEED AP.  “This project fits into our design focus fostering community, innovation, and creative learning environments for our educational clients.”
