First Annual Collegiate State Championship Crowns Harrisburg University and Drexel University PA Cup Tournament Champions

For the first time in collegiate esports, Pennsylvania crowned the top varsity or club esports teams in League of Legends, Overwatch and Hearthstone. This weekend,  more than 30 teams from colleges and universities across Pennsylvania participated in the first annual PA Cup, a two-day League of Legends, Hearthstone, and Overwatch tournament for teams located across the state. Teams competed the entire weekend virtually from their home campus.

Harrisburg University, the tournament’s host, dominated during qualifying rounds featuring top, heavy-hitting teams, including Villanova University, Lafayette University, Susquehanna University, Temple University, Kutztown University and Pennsylvania College of Technology to advance to Day 2 of the tournament. The Storm beat out University of Pennsylvania in the League of Legends final match winning 2-0, and took down Drexel University in Overwatch with a final score of 3-0.  Drexel University edged out 3-0 over Lafayette University to capture the Hearthstone title.

“This is a premiere tournament experience and we are so proud that The Storm was able to stay focused as they went head to head with some major collegiate teams in the State,” said Chad Smeltz, Director of Esports at Harrisburg University. “This was a one-of-a-kind tournament experience and to have teams from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and cities in between join in the PA Cup tournament is something to celebrate.”
