Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is happy to announce that Dr Rachel L. Fogle, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, Environmental Science & Sustainability and Lead and Coordinator of Aquaponics/Hydroponics Initiatives has been awarded $7,153 to develop a pathway for students in low socioeconomic school districts surrounding the greater Harrisburg area to learn about Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA).

This project will enhance the students’ knowledge of how they can individually improve food security while learning about the expanding opportunities of diverse CEA-related careers.  This initiative mirrors the work of Fogle and associates throughout the county in emerging environmental studies and innovation.

PA Agriculture (Ag) Secretary Russell Redding announced the grant as part of $1.5 million in awards and grants to schools and agricultural education programs through the PA Farm Bill 2022-23 Farm to School and Agriculture and Youth Grant Programs.  These grants were awarded to youth organizations to promote the development of agriculture, community leadership, vocational training, and peer fellowship.
