A team comprised of HU professors and doctoral students published a book chapter entitled “Developing Cyber-Personas from Syslog Files for Insider Threat Detection: A Feasibility Study,” in which the group described their efforts in leveraging machine learning techniques for analyzing network log files for early detection of network users acting inappropriately—often referred to as insider threats.

The team consisted of current Analytics Program PhD students Sridhar Reddy Ravula, Ziyuan Huang, and Mark Newman.  Also collaborating on the chapter were Analytics Program professors Kevin Purcell and Kevin Huggins.

The chapter appears in the newly released book: “Military Applications of Data Analytics,” which can be found on Amazon.
