Maria Vaida, the first student to earn a Ph.D. from Harrisburg University, and Karla Engel, University liaison for marketing and recruitment, joined recently to discuss HU internship opportunities during a facebook live broadcast.

Engel weighed in on the unique design of graduate program internships at HU.

“The way that Harrisburg University has designed their internship programs for international students is with day one CPT (Curricular Practical training). And that’s a really wonderful opportunity because it allows students to connect what they are actually learning in their degree program with their professional work experience,” Engel said. “So, all of our students who are in our graduate programs at Harrisburg University are not only pursuing their degree programs, they’re also working professionally in their field of study.”

Vaida, who earned a Ph.D. in Data Sciences from HU in December, said the CPT program, which allows students to also earn a paycheck while completing their studies, was a major factor that led her to the program.

“At Harrisburg University, I was able to find a program that fit my needs and helped me achieve my goals. While completing my Ph.D., I was able to maintain a career because the internship opportunities are more of a career path,” Vaida said. “And it also gave me the opportunity to expand my family throughout my studies. Exactly a year ago, today, I welcomed our third child, and that was just a few months before completing my coursework.”
