Harrisburg, PA – Earlier this year, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology (HU) received a $5,000 donation from Juniata Bank through the Education Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC). Juanita Bank has served central and northern Pennsylvania since 1867.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program aims to improve the financial stability of low- to moderate-income working families. The EITC program benefits Pennsylvania students in several direct and indirect ways, including:

  • Improving household income and stability
  • Boosting educational attainment and graduation rates
  • Creating access to meaningful extracurricular activities
  • Fostering long-term economic mobility for learners
  • Increasing rates of enrollment in higher education

John W. Friend, Vice President for Admissions & Secondary Schools at Harrisburg University, remarked on the impact of this EITC gift on Pennsylvania students:

“The funds donated from Juniata Valley Bank will benefit students from several local high schools when they enroll in dual-enrollment courses offered by Harrisburg University. Students are able to remain at their respective high schools, taking courses approved for college credit by Harrisburg University through the College in the High School program. Students are also able to pursue dual enrollment with coursework on-campus at Harrisburg University. We sincerely appreciate this EITC gift from Juniata Bank in support of Pennsylvania students.”

Participating businesses and individuals not only benefit from tax advantages but also contribute to innovative educational programs while enhancing their positive public relations through charitable work.
