Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is excited to announce the upcoming Clinical Foundations in Esports certification course, which will be presented by Harrisburg University’s Exercise Science Program and Esports Health and Performance Institute. The summit introduces healthcare clinicians to their role in the rapidly growing esports and video gaming industry. The event occurs on June 3, 2023, and can be attended in person or virtually.

The global esports industry is valued at approximately $1.4 billion, with over 39 million esports enthusiasts in the United States alone. To cater to this growing industry, the Clinical Foundations in Esports certification course will provide clinicians with the foundational knowledge of injuries associated with gaming, prevention strategies, and treatment interventions.

Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Exercise Physiologists, and Chiropractors are encouraged to attend the summit. The program will cover an overview of the performance and health landscape in gaming and esports, principles of posture and ergonomics in gaming and esports, esports techniques, common gaming injuries, performance considerations, and current research in gaming and esports.

The course will feature renowned presenters such as Dr. Caitlin McGee, Dr. Matthew Hwu, and Dr. Elliot Smithson. Dr. McGee, who has specialized in esports and orthopedic medicine since 2015, says, “Having more qualified providers in esports will push esports performance forward, provide better support for teams, and improve player longevity.”

The Clinical Foundations in Esports course will cover understanding the performance and health landscape of esports, principles of posture and ergonomics, esports techniques, common injuries, and performance considerations, and current research.
