Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Offices of Career Services and Experiential Learning are excited to host the 2021 Fall Career Week, taking place the week of October 11-15.

Hosting nearly 15 events, HU students and alumni will have the opportunity to engage with employers in a variety of ways including informational sessions in which they’ll be able to learn about job and internship opportunities.

“We are excited to be able to host our fourth annual Fall Career Week as it has always been a tremendous way for our students to interact with our employer partners in the Central Pennsylvania area and the Mid-Atlantic region as a whole,” said Jeff Kayer, Harrisburg University’s Employer Relations & Career Development Director. “We have been so happy to see students and alumni learn about a job or internship opportunity in the past that later translated into them being hired by the participating company!”

Participating companies include Deloitte, AWS, GlaxoSmithKline, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the University Science Center in Philadelphia.

Similar to Spring Career Week hosted in February, Fall Career Week will take place virtually, providing students, alumni, and employers the safest possible option to engage with each other. This format has been beneficial as it allows more employers to participate in events who normally would not be able to travel to campus.

Fall Career Week will kick off on Monday, Oct. 11th with an employer panel discussion titled, “Revolutionized Recruiting,” during which employers will be talking about changes in the workforce, including anything from looking for a job to how to network in a virtual world.

“So many of us have witnessed how the workforce has changed during these past two years,” said Kristin DiMatteo, Harrisburg University’s Employer Relations & Career Development Director. “This panel will offer our students and alumni valuble insights into how to navigate these continuous changes to optimize their job and internship searches.”

The following day, Rebekah Harriger, HU Director of Experiential Learning, will preside over a panel of recent interns who will discuss their experiences in securing an internship and how to exude professionalism and communication in the workplace. The panel will be hosted by HU alumnus Angel Brown.

“As internship experiences have been evolving and adapting during the past year, we are ecstatic to hear from some of our current students and alumni moderator about how their internship experience has impacted their future while also providing tips and insight to students as they apply and seek an internship,” Harriger said.

Students and alumni have already started signing up for the seven employer engagement sessions that will be hosted on Wednesday and Thursday, October 13-14.

“These employer sesions will give students and alumni the opportunity to hear directly from recruiters about their respective company, their culture and values and also of course, the job and internship opportunites that are available now and in the future,” Kayer said. “Participants will also be able to take part in a Q&A session with each employer at the end of their session.”

Fall Career Week will include a representative from LinkedIn who will host a one-hour session on Oct. 12, discussing how to create the perfect LinkedIn profile. Career Services and Experiential Learning will also host “Flashby Friday,” where students and alumni can book virtual appointments with any questions stemming from all of the week’s events.

Students and alumni are encouraged to visit https://summits.harrisburgu.edu/careerweek/schedule/ to register their spot for upcoming events. For any employers wishing to participate in any future Career Week events, they are encouraged to email the Offices of Career Services and Experiential Learning at careerservices@harrisburgu.edu.
