Harrisburg, Pa. – Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Esports coach Joe “Joemeister” Gramano, head coach of the HU Storm Overwatch team, has been named the University’s Associate Director of Esports.

In his new role, Gramano, who led the Storm to two consecutive Overwatch National  Championships and numerous other title wins, will work with Chad Smeltz, Director for Esports at HU. The two will work on partner and sponsor relationship development, in addition to community outreach efforts that support and enhance HU’s Esports activities. Gramano also will continue to work with the Overwatch team. 

“Working with Joe as our varsity Overwatch coach has been amazing. With his new role, I’m confident that he’ll bring the same hard work and determination to help make the Storm successful in new ways,” Smeltz said.

Taking Gramano’s place as head coach is Jackson “Shake” Kaplan. Kaplan, who served as assistant coach for HU’s Overwatch team, is a former professional Esports player and coach.

ABOUT THE HARRISBURG UNIVERSITY STORM

The Harrisburg University Storm is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), the varsity Esports program that fields teams in Overwatch and League of Legends. The Storm has won two consecutive Collegiate Overwatch National Championships since its inception in 2018. The Storm has won numerous other championships and is the consecutive recipient of the international Tempest Award for Best Collegiate Esports Program. Harrisburg University is Pennsylvania’s first University to offer full-tuition scholarships to the members of its varsity Esports team. The team calls a state-of-the-art, multimillion-dollar facility located in the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts home.
