HARRISBURG, PA — Harrisburg University of Science & Technology (HU) is proud to announce that Roozbeh Sadeghian, Ph.D., dean of HU’s School of Analytics & Computational Sciences, has been elevated to Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization.

Senior Member is the highest grade an IEEE member can attain through application, reserved for professionals with at least 10 years of experience in their field and a sustained record of significant achievement. Only a small portion of IEEE’s members hold the distinction, which recognizes both technical expertise and professional leadership.

Sadeghian’s research sits at the intersection of machine learning, deep learning, and healthcare. He has pioneered the use of speech recognition and everyday consumer technologies — such as smartphones and cameras — to support the early, noninvasive screening of conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, childhood speech delays, and skin cancer. Formerly the program lead for analytics at HU, he now serves as dean of the School of Analytics & Computational Sciences, with a strong focus on machine learning, big data, and signal processing.

“Being recognized by IEEE is a tremendous honor, and it’s one I share with the students and colleagues who advance this work alongside me every day,” Sadeghian said. “My goal has always been to put advanced technology to work in ways that make healthcare more useful and accessible. This recognition means that the research we’re doing at Harrisburg University matters.”

Provost and Chief Academic Officer Kevin Purcell, Ph.D., praised the achievement as a reflection of the University’s mission.

“Dr. Sadeghian is exactly the kind of scholar-practitioner that Harrisburg University was built to champion,” Purcell said. “This honor from IEEE speaks to his individual excellence and to the caliber of research and teaching our faculty bring to our students every day. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with him.”

Before joining HU, Sadeghian spent seven years as a senior industrial automation engineer. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
