Biography

Dr. Teresa Cating graduated from East Carolina University with a BSN in nursing and began her career in the Operating Room, growing to lead teams in a 21-room trauma OR. She was later a Director in Infectious Disease, Home Care, Hospice, Continuous Care and Long-Term Care.

After 25 years as a Registered Nurse, Dr. Cating received a master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and became a board-certified Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. She has spent the last 12 years practicing in Internal Medicine as well as Acute and Chronic Telemedicine.

Dr. Cating received a Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Duke University in 2017. During that time, she studied the effects of communication within nursing and patient outcomes.

In addition to seeing patients as an NP, Dr. Cating was a full-time Assistant Clinical Professor for 5 ½ years at UNC-Charlotte, teaching RN-BSN, BSN, MSN, and DNP students. She has taught didactic and clinical courses, synchronous and asynchronous, and lab courses. She has taught beginner nursing students, graduate level nursing students, CRNA, NP and Doctoral students.

Dr. Cating feels all nurses should be “lifelong learners.” If you want to do your best for the patient, you need to read, learn, and keep up with the ever-changing environment of healthcare. Healthcare is not stagnant, and you cannot be either!
