Have you ever wanted to get ahead of the hackers?
Well… now you can!
This October, Harrisburg University and InfraGard Central PA are doing something a little different for Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
We’re hosting a 5K.
On a Wednesday. At 3:00 in the afternoon.
Not exactly the traditional time for a 5K, but then again, hackers don’t wait for the most convenient and expected time to hack.
Cyber threats don’t operate on our schedules, and on Wednesday, October 21, neither will we! We’re turning that idea into something a little more fun and we’re going to Outrun the Hackers!
Outrun The Hackers 5K
As part of the Harrisburg University Annual Cybersecurity Summit Day 1 events, we’re inviting cybersecurity professionals, students, government and industry partners, families, runners, walkers, and the entire community to join us for the inaugural Outrun the Hackers 5K.
Date: Wednesday, October 21, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: City Island – Carousel Pavilion, Harrisburg, PA
Cost: Registration: $30 (This registration is separate from the Cybersecurity Summit registration. You’ll receive a Summit registration discount if you sign up for the 5K).
What To Expect
The day starts with cybersecurity. Then we’re taking cyber resilience out of the conference room and onto the streets of Pennsylvania’s Capital City for a community-wide event.
You’ll start on City Island, cross the Walnut Street Bridge, run along Harrisburg’s beautiful riverfront, and encounter a few cyber challenges along the way.

The Cyber Challenge Course
You’ll have to make it through three cybersecurity-themed challenges along the course.
And keep your eyes open—there may just be a few
“hackers”
on the course you’ll have to
outrun!
Your Registration Includes
Race Shirt*
Medal*
Chip Timing
Awards
Refreshments & Snacks
Community Event
Most importantly, your registration gives you the chance to spend an afternoon having some fun with an incredible cybersecurity community.
*Shirt sizes and medals are guaranteed for participants registered by the early registration deadline. Late registrations while supplies last.
Than the Finish Line
Even better, proceeds from the race benefit the Harrisburg University Cybersecurity Student Scholarship Fund, helping us invest in the education and development of our next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
STAY SECURE.
Not interested in running? Walk with us, take a nice stroll along the Susquehanna River and take in that crisp fall air. Bring your coworkers. Build an office team. Bring your students. Bring your families and friends. Wear your company or agency gear. Show up in your favorite cyber-themed attire, cheer on the participants, or simply make a donation to support the scholarship fund through the race registration site.
Cybersecurity is a team sport and so is building a stronger, more resilient community.
So, we’re challenging our cyber community to show up!
So, grab your running shoes, bring your team, and help us turn an ordinary Wednesday afternoon into something decidedly unordinary. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is about recognizing that we all have a role in protecting our digital world. On October 21, we’re going to have a little fun while spreading that message throughout Pennsylvania’s Capital City.
The hackers are coming. Think you can outrun them?
Capture the Flag
Come join us at Cyber Liberty, a fast-paced Hack the Box Capture the Flag cybersecurity competition held during Day 1 of the Harrisburg University Cybersecurity Summit.
From 9:00 a.m. to noon on October 21, 2026, technical participants will put their cybersecurity knowledge to the test by tackling realistic, hands-on challenges inspired by the threats defenders face every day. Participants will investigate clues, uncover vulnerabilities, solve complex problems, and capture flags while sharpening the practical skills needed to defend today’s digital environment.
Running alongside an executive-level tabletop exercise for cybersecurity leaders, the CTF will bring the technical and leadership communities together around a shared mission: strengthening cyber readiness through teamwork, problem-solving, and action.
Whether you are an experienced practitioner, an emerging cybersecurity professional, a student ready to challenge your abilities, or just want to get hands on the keyboard, Cyber Liberty offers an exciting opportunity to learn, collaborate, compete, and demonstrate your skills.
Participants can join as an individual or form a team of up to 5 members to play! We only have capacity for 100 players and registration is first-come first-served, so sign up now to secure your or your team’s spot. (This will be a part of the main registration form.)
Cyber Liberty Table Top Exercise
Cyber Liberty TTX (non-technical / cybersecurity leaders). No external registration required.
We have a fun-filled two days. Below is a basic schedule of activities and what to expect.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
