Student Budgets (Cost of Attendance)
Each year the Financial Aid Office develops the Student Budgets, or the cost for students to attend Harrisburg University. This is also sometimes referred to as the Cost of Attendance. Simply stated, the student budget is the maximum amount of financial aid that a student can receive in a given award year. It is also used in conjunction with the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine need-based financial aid eligibility.
Student budgets are assigned based on housing status (On-Campus, Off-Campus, Commuter). The student budget is also divided into multiple categories, including direct expenses such as tuition, and housing for on-campus students. Indirect expenses (non-billable charges) such as food, books, transportation, and miscellaneous costs are also included. It is very important to note that these budgets in most cases will not reflect actual cost because financial aid is not yet included. Complete the financial aid process at HU to calculate your estimated out of pocket cost.

- Tuition Costs are based on full-time undergraduate traditional student program.
- Less than full-time students, HU Online, and graduate/doctorate students will have all budget categories, including tuition charges, prorated based on credits enrolled and enrollment status.
- All HU Online and graduate/doctorate students will be assigned the Off-Campus student budget.
- Average Federal Student Loan fees of $66 for Federal Direct Loans and $308 for Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans are accounted for under the Miscellaneous category.
- Some of these items are estimates based on average or maximum costs. If a particular student’s cost varies significantly from the estimate, that student’s budget can be adjusted if the student submits a written request accompanied by documentation of the actual cost.
