Class Location/Format

The 2023-2024  IT Leaders – IT Managers Program will be delivered  VIRTUALLY*, via Microsoft Teams – with live presenters and facilitators.

*While we are planning an all-virtual format, there may be a potential opportunity for a few select in-person sessions throughout the program for those who are able to attend in-person at Harrisburg University.  Those who are not local or choose to not attend in-person will still be able to attend all sessions virtually.  More information and details will be provided to program participants when/if we are able to hold any “hybrid” sessions during the course of the program.

 

About the Course

The IT Managers (ITM) Certificate Program focuses on the management aspects of information technology and is designed to:

Empower IT Managers with the needed management and leadership skills essential for senior IT Professionals.

Provide information and tools to lead their organization; manage their team effectively; and support the organization’s leadership in executing key objectives

Led by program facilitators, individual seminars are presented by subject matter experts, and include guest speakers, panel discussions and interactive group exercises.

The IT Managers (ITM) Certificate Program is part of the overarching IT Leaders (ITL) Program, which includes the IT Executives Program. The combined program provides many benefits, including the opportunity for IT Executives and IT Managers to interact during many educational sessions, as well as, breaks and lunches. Interaction and collaboration between IT Executives and IT Managers provide a better understanding and perspective of each other’s role.

Wherever relevant, topics will be addressed in the context of planning and response to unexpected events. Lessons learned from those in class will further enhance the knowledge of ITL attendees.

Target Audience

The IT Managers Certificate Program is specifically designed for employees who currently serve or aspire to serve in positions focuses on managing the delivery of IT services and projects within their respective organizations.

Curriculum

The curriculum reflects the input of those who serve or have served in the most senior IT positions in the private and public sectors.  Participants actively engage with presenters and colleagues on topics important to IT Managers in today’s workplace.

Learning Methods

The course is comprised of presentations, group exercises, networking, peer learning and a capstone class project.

Schedule and Topics Covered

Classes meet two (1.5) days per month (*except where otherwise noted)

Full days are held from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Half-days are held from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

  • Module 3: Business Strategies & Strategic Planning Tools
  • Module 4: 360 Communications, Negotiation Techniques & Selling Your Ideas
  • Module 5: Data-Driven Decision Making for Leaders
  • Module 6: Understanding & Leading Organizational Change / Agile, Lean, & Project Management
  • Module 7: Continuity of Operations (COOP) / Cyber Security
  • Module 8: Digital Organizations, Innovation, & Emerging Technologies*
  • Module 9: Capstone Presentation & Graduation*

*IT Managers program meets for 2 full days.

Pre-Requisites (Qualifications)

In order to be considered for the IT Managers program, an employee must be nominated by their organization’s CIO/IT Manager or other senior executive and have:

  1. Mid to upper level Management classification; AND
  2. Two years’ or more experience in IT operations or managing projects in the following core functional areas: application development, project management, computing and network, information systems security, or telecommunications.

Expectations & Class Attendance Policy

Some sessions will require pre-readings such as articles, case studies, or research.  Significant preparation time is not expected, given attendees have a “day job.”

Attendance at a minimum of 90% of the sessions is required.

Certificate of Completion, Credits & PDUs

Certificate
Graduates of this program will earn Harrisburg University’s Information Technology Manager Certificate of Completion.

Credits
Graduates of the course will also be awarded six (6) academic credits that can be applied to a Master’s degree at Harrisburg University.

Professional Development Units (PDUs)
Graduates of the program are eligible for up to 135 Professional Development Units (PDU) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).

TUITION FEE

2023-2024 TUITION FEES*

  • Private-Sector/For-Profit Organizations/Self-Employed: $2,965
  • Public Sector/Non-Profit Organizations:  $2,365

*Those accepted into the program or their organizations are responsible for the per-participant cost of the program.  Tuition fee is not collected at time of application.  Accepted applicants of the program will receive a tuition invoice at a later date.

 

Application Process

CANDIDATE APPLICATION

Interested candidates should complete the application form by clicking on the APPLY NOW button below.  The application allows candidates to present their learning goals, past experiences, expertise, and knowledge they will bring to the cohort for consideration.  Candidates will be notified in a timely manner as to their acceptance into the program cohort.

NOMINATION/SUPPORT LETTER 

Candidates will demonstrate the support of their senior leadership by submitting a letter of nomination written on their behalf.  The nomination letter should include current position and responsibilities, along with skills, knowledge, and any special projects in which you are responsible.

The nomination letter should be addressed to “ITM Program Managers” and emailed to ProfessionalEd@HarrisburgU.edu with the subject line as, “ITM Nomination Letter for [YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME]”

APPLICATION DEADLINE / ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION

  • All applications and nomination/support letters are due by the Application Deadline date
  • Applicants will be notified regarding whether they have or have not been accepted into the  program.

Harrisburg University’s Government Technology Institute is a driving force in educating IT Leaders, empowering them with increased skills to make “Good Government Great Government.” GTI connects government technology leaders with the expertise of its sponsors, as well as Harrisburg University faculty and advisors.
