Susan Wayman Director of International Engagement/PDSO
Susan joins the HU team with international higher ed administration experience since 2007, after previously working for humanitarian initiatives in Crimea, Ukraine. Initially, a Peace Corps placement in La Republique Populaire du Benin helped Susan realize how much she loves learning about other cultures, customs, struggles, and beliefs outside of her own. Her early experience working in rural development as a grant writer in Benin led to a life-long commitment to international peoples, places, and things.
Susan’s MA in Development Studies from Ohio University Center for International Studies and her MA in Linguistics from University of Texas provided a broader awareness and clearer lenses through which to engage international interests. She comes to Harrisburg University after 13 years in international higher ed administration at Nichols College in south central Massachusetts where she was responsible for developing study away programs, supporting course-related travel, and setting up international internships. But her most rewarding work at Nichols came through her responsibility to ensure international student success and satisfaction. The Natchaug Forest in northeast Connecticut surrounds her home with glorious trails, streams and lakes. Shinrin-yoku is her favorite way to maintain health and happiness
