Melanie J. El Atieh Corporate Faculty (MEBA)

Melanie J. El Atieh, Esq., currently serves as Corporate Faculty at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, where she teaches Business Law & Ethics in the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Business Administration (MEBA) Bachelor of Science program.  

Ms. El Atieh is a practicing attorney, and she currently serves as Assistant Counsel in the Law Bureau of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PA PUC).  Ms. El Atieh previously served the PA PUC as an attorney for three years in the Office of Special Assistants and as a Commissioner’s Assistant (policy and technical) for three years in the Office of the Honorable Glen R. Thomas.

Ms. El Atieh has private sector experience in the regulated and market-based sectors of the natural gas, electricity, and water/wastewater industries.  She has worked as an associate attorney at Blank Rome LLP, as in-house counsel at UGI Corporation and American Water Works Service Company, Inc., and as a public utility rates manager at UGI Utilities, Inc., addressing a broad range of complex litigation matters and commercial transactions.  Ms. El Atieh currently serves as the Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Public Utility Law Section and previously served as its Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Young Lawyer Division Liaison.

Ms. El Atieh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Temple University and a Juris Doctor in Law from Temple University Beasley School of Law.  While attending law school, Ms. El Atieh won First Prize in the Temple University Fox School of Business’ 2007 “Be Your Own Boss Bowl” in the Graduate School/Alumni/Faculty Division.  Her submission was The After-Schoolhouse, a non-profit organization that provides at-risk students a college preparatory after-school program that provides academic support for school curriculum to ensure optimal student performance on exams and supplements classroom learning with a rigorous and challenging debate program that develops core academic skills: critical thinking, research, and communication.
