Mark Crider, Ph.D., RN Executive Director, Professor and Program Lead of Nursing

Dr. Mark Crider served as Assistant Dean for Administration and Special Projects and Director of the Veteran to BSN program with the Duquesne University School of Nursing before joining Harrisburg University. He also has served as Assistant Professor in the Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San Jose State University, San Jose, CA before moving back to Pennsylvania in 2011, taking the position of Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Duquesne University. Dr. Crider also was the Chair of Undergraduate Programs in the School of Nursing before becoming Assistant Dean.

Dr. Crider has a diverse nursing background as a staff nurse, nurse manager, nursing director, lobbyist, management and organizational development specialist, and nurse educator. His research interest is focused on policy, specifically health policy impacting persons with chronic mental illness in the community, professional practice policies, and nursing education policies.

Dr. Crider received his BS in nursing from the School of Nursing at the Pennsylvania State University, his MSN in nursing education from the College of Nursing at Villanova University, and his Ph.D. in nursing with a health policy focus from the University of California San Francisco School of Nursing and Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Crider has extensive experience in professional organizational leadership holding membership positions in several nursing specialty organizations including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing. In addition, he has held state leadership roles as a member of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association/California, and the California League for Nursing. He is a three-time delegate from both Pennsylvania and California to the American Nurses Association general assembly meetings and an honorary member of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP). In December 2016 Dr. Crider was elected to a two-year term as President of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA), the state constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA). He also serves as Board President of the Peer Support and Advocacy Network, Allegheny County.
