Brett Thackara Corporate Faculty (ENVS)
Born and raised in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, it was the historic blizzard of 1993 that first grabbed Brett’s attention and steered him toward a profession in meteorology.
He earned his B.S. degree in meteorology from Penn State University and has enjoyed being able to forecast the weather in Central PA with abc27 since 2007. He loves the challenge of forecasting in Central Pennsylvania thanks to the diverse climate where anything can happen from blizzards to tornadoes. He has seen everything from historic blizzards and flooding to tornadoes and hurricanes in many years working on television.
You can catch Brett as a staple of the abc27 morning lineup. He currently helps wake up Central PA on abc27 News Daybreak from 4:30am-7:00am. He loves helping viewers get their day started with the forecast and some laughs along the way. He also helps host Good Day PA from 10:00am-11:00am on abc27 and enjoys the variety of guests and fun segments on the region’s only local lifestyle program. Then he delivers the forecast for lunchtime viewers on abc27 News at Noon. Brett’s mornings are busy but enjoyable helping deliver the Midstate’s most accurate local forecast along with some entertainment.
Starting in the spring of 2023, Brett joined the HU staff as a part-time professor teaching meteorology. He enjoys imparting weather knowledge to students and helping them understand the atmosphere, climate, and day-to-day weather better. He is thrilled with the opportunity to help curious students learn more about a subject he is passionate about every day. Come and learn about the weather and let’s journey together through our atmosphere to see what complexities await!
