Analytics B.S. Degree
If you have a mind for mathematics and a passion for working with data to solve real problems, the B.S. in Analytics degree at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is your program. This undergraduate degree program is designed to equip you for the challenging task of deriving insights from a vast quantity and variety of data. This degree can provide you with the knowledge and skills to become a highly sought-after analytics professional, one of a new breed of data scientists to meet the growing demand for professionals who understand "big data". Analytics is a rapidly-growing field, especially in the health insurance industry, as well as in retail.
If you have never heard the term, analytics is a process whereby history is used to make predictions about the future. For example, the use of electronic health records to monitor trends of past behavior, predict future outcomes and help make preemptive medical decisions to improve a person's wellness. Healthcare is rich in data. Regulators, researchers, and managers collect multitudes of clinical indicators on patients, procedures, physicians, staff, facilities, and equipment. Indeed, the challenge for healthcare organizations is to make sense of the morass of clinical, financial, and operational information generated each day.
That's why Capital BlueCross is partnering with the University to provide internships to selected students majoring in healthcare analytics. Students will gain industry experience and professional mentorship through a structured series of internships at Capital BlueCross, along with an intensive and very-focused curriculum offered by Harrisburg University. Additionally, students who complete one of these degree programs and the internship requirements will be considered by Capital BlueCross for employment in health care analytics for any open positions that are available following their graduation.
The University also offers a five-year B.S. to M.S. program, which allows students an opportunity to earn both degrees in a shorter amount of time.
