Project Leadership

Applying leadership to Strategy, People, Climate in Project & Program Management

Advance from Project Project Leadership!

Professional Education on Leading Projects and People

Project leadership is a skillset that addresses the complexities of project management that impact people, culture, and strategy. These skills surpass mastery of a project management methodology. Project leadership includes the attitudes, skills and behaviors that enable individuals to become strategic partners with senior management, and motivational leaders for their teams and colleagues. Enhancing your skills as a project leader will help you do more with less, increase a project's ROI, and reduce failure rates by having greater influence over results.

Leadership is a proven factor in project success and a skill any project manager can develop.

Complementing our master's degree in Project Management, Harrisburg University emphasizes the critical importance of leadership in project management. To support development of these skills, the University offers professional development programs that explore these complex issues of project management.

Project Leadership Professional Series

A four-part series on Project Leadership addresses some of the critical issues facing project managers and their organizations.

  • Essentials of Project Leadership
  • Developing High-Performing Project Teams (new course)
  • Leading Change and Taking Charge of New Initiatives
  • Negotiating Techniques, Getting to Win/Win

The first course in the series, "Project Leadership Essentials," is ideal for experienced project managers who want to refine their skills in dealing with issues that go beyond the project plan and methodology. The session will introduce critical topics such as linking projects to strategy, understanding organizational culture and mastering your interactions with people. This will be a refresher for those who have attended our Project Leadership Forums in the past.

The three sessions on high-performing teams, leading change, and negotiations are presented as a 'deep dive' into how these aspects of projects rely on specialized leadership skills. Each of the sessions can be attended on its own. However there is great value is investing in attending all four for a comprehensive experience. Each of sessions will yield 6 PMI Professional Development Units (PDUs).
